Fresh Snow Replenishes Sierra Ski Resorts

Posted: Updated:

The winter has been rough on Sierra ski resorts, but this week's storms have them looking a lot more like they usually do at this time of year.

Squaw Valley, which sits between Truckee and the north shore of Lake Tahoe, received 22 inches of snow at its top elevations between Wednesday, when the first storm hit, and midday Friday. Neighboring Alpine Meadows reported 15 inches.

Amelia Richmond, a spokeswoman for both resorts, says another foot of new snow is expected by Saturday.

UC Berkeley's Central Sierra Snow Lab near Donner Summit reports that the snow is largely accumulating above 7,000 feet.

That means a smaller overall snowpack. If those conditions continue through spring, it will lead to less snowmelt over the summer to refill California's reservoirs.  (AP)
