Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Nevada, California Counties

From the National Weather Service:

A winter weather advisory for snow remains in effect to 10pm this evening.

Affected areas include the following counties: Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Nevada and Plumas in California - and Douglas, Elko, Lander, Nye and Washoe in Nevada.

* Timing: Snow showers will persist into this evening.

* Snow accumulations: 4 to 8 inches below 7,000 feet...8 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet...and up to 18 inches along the crest in Alpine County including Carson Pass.

* Snow levels: 5,500 to 6,000 feet.

* Wind gusts: 50 to 60 mph over ridges.

* Impacts: snow will create hazardous driving conditions with low visibility due to heavy snow. Chain restrictions and travel delays on interstate 80 and highways 50...88...89... 267 and 431.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:

Snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads will become slick and hazardous...with snow and ice first developing on bridges and overpasses.
