MU Ha Concert Helps Heal Through Music

Posted: Updated:

The University of Nevada held an event that combines the power of music, and the struggles of addiction, Friday night.  Join Together Northern Nevada's 'Mu-Ha' concert is about raising awareness of addictive drugs, but at the same time letting loose, and having a good time.

"It's all about the healing power of music," said John Kapeghian, musical director. "When people are down, you hear a song, you may be sick and not wanting to get out of bed, and then you start moving."

This is the fourth of the concert, but Friday was the first time JTNN partnered with the University and their drug prevention program. It took over a year and a half to plan.

Organizers expect more than 600 people to show up throughout the night.

Several local groups including Crush,, Grant Davis Band, Postwar, and Ekoh took the stage.

"I put my energy, my attention, by obsessive nature into something besides bad habits," said Ekoh. "That's our whole slogan: making beauty out of bad habits."

All proceeds tonight go directly towards programs that help out the recovery effort,  as well as parent and addict support groups.
