Washoe County Juvenile Services Moves to Sparks

Posted: Updated:

From Washoe County:

On March 14, 2014, the Washoe County Department of Juvenile Services' Intake Assessment Unit will cease operations at the Charles M. McGee Center at 2097 Longley Lane in Reno. Effective March 17, 2014, services will be relocated to 2395 East Prater Way in Sparks, Nevada.

The Charles M. McGee Center was established in October 1992 as a state of the art, residential program to serve status offenders in the community. It evolved over time to include the Girls' Residential Program for female offenders until 2010, and then a Girls' Day Program until 2012. It has served since then as the Intake Assessment Unit for juvenile misdemeanor and status offenders.

This spring, the McGee Center will be the site of the new Child Advocacy Center, which will provide a home for the multi-disciplinary team that works with victims of sexual assault. This effort is being led by Washoe County District Attorney, Richard Gammick.

These efforts are in alignment with the County's strategic objectives of safe, secure and healthy communities, maintaining service levels, and sustaining social resources.
