Reno's First Cannabis Center Up and Running

Posted: Updated:

Nestled into a strip mall in Northwest Reno, this city's first operating cannabis center is open for business. No they don't sell marijuana, but they do do screenings for medical marijuana cards and they do sell cannabis-based substances they say give you the benefits of marijuana without the buzz.

"We are not a head shop. We don't have curtains pulled, tinted-windows or glass pipes," says Shane Smith, the Founder of Elements Cannabis Center in Reno. "But we are here to help shine some light on marijuana and show people it is a good thing, not a bad thing."

Elements offers medical screenings for those who want medical marijuana cards. If the doctor deems cannabis a good treatment, they help you fill out the application and can even notarize it for you.

"We've only had about 15 people actually get their cards so far, but we've had hundreds of people call and ask questions about what it costs and how to get an appointment here," Smith says.

And just across the lobby they sell CBD Oil based products. They are made from the oil distilled from hemp and they say they offer the medicinal properties of cannabis without the psycho-active effects. And they say that makes their drops, gums, and pastes appropriate for a wide range of patients with everything from cancer to chronic pain.

"We've had customers in here from veterans to college students and even children whose parents see this as an alternative to prescription painkillers," says Matius Lava who specializes in the CBD Oil products.

They plan to apply for one of the few dispensary licenses the state will issue later this year. However if they get it, they will open a dispensary in a less populated area of town and keep the screening clinic and cannabis center right where it is.

Elements is located at 2005 Sierra Highlands Drive in Reno. Their phone number is 775-378-2894. You can find more information about the clinic at
