Winning Powerball Numbers for $400 Million Dollar Jackpot

Posted: Updated:

The winning numbers for the $400 Million Jackpot are: 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and the powerball number is 34.

There is one confirmed winner from California. The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at Dixon Landing Chevron which in Santa Clara County. It successfully matched the numbers 17, 49, 54, 35, 1 and the Powerball number 34. The retail location is a big winner too as well. Dixon Landing Chevron will receive a $1 million bonus just for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

There is no word yet on winners from other states.

Nevadans were running for the California border all day.

Spending $2 a ticket for a chance to strike it rich.

But for such a huge jackpot lines are fairly short. "When they had the big one, last time, the line went way out there. So many people were so cool. People you don't even know come off the wall and just start talking," says Mike Kriens of Spanish Springs.

The talk today is about what people will do if they win Powerball. "This amount of money, the $400 million, you would have an obligation to do something for the community. Which wouldn't be hard because Reno could use a little help, here and there," says Susan Sturtevant of Reno.

Since Nevada doesn't participate in the lottery, more than 90% of people buying tickets at the Gold Ranch store are from the Reno area.

Like the two Karens.

Karen Wilson's son is married to Karen Burch's daughter who just gave birth to their grandson.

His name is not Karen. "We hope we win Powerball because his future will be taken care of," says Burch.

They say they'll also pay for tuition and use some for houses, cars, and travel. "It's just fun to make a wish list. I think everybody has a wish list. What if?," says Wilson.

And even after taxes, you can't possibly spend that much money, right? "Mike Tyson spent $300 million. I don't know how he did it, but no, I would never spend that kind of money," says Jonathan Christopher of Reno.

Almost everyone here said they would give part of their winnings to charity and spoil their loved ones. "If I won $400 million, I would give my wife a $20 gift certificate. Let her go shopping. I would buy some exotic cars and then I would donate the rest to the world," says Dennis Stafford of Reno.

Of course, his wife has a more logical way of using the money. "If I won that much money, I would probably have to pay for a heart transplant because I just had a heart attack from winning so much," says Pat.

Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
