Reno DMV Office to Try New Queue-less System

Posted: Updated:

If you've been to the DMV lately you know that the lines have gotten ridiculously long.

"Our wait time right now, right this minute, is an hour and 48 minutes...which is huge!" says Reno DMV Branch Manger Christine Schlosser. "We are so busy it's crazy. This is supposed to be our slow time of year but it's as if we were in June, July and August!"

She says the enactment of the driver privilege cards, a better economy and just more title transactions overall are all adding to the numbers there which are more than 1,500 transactions each day. So in March they will be trying a new system.

"It's called a queue-less system," Schlosser says. "People can call in to get a number and then we'll text them every half hour or so and let them know what number they are. When they are like number ten or so they can head this way."

She says they can ask for more time if they are stuck in traffic, or even for more time to the next day if they want, but the system will save their place for them. They plan to run the program for 90 days in Reno and if it's successful they'll make it statewide.

And she says a lot of the DMV transactions can be done online, which saves everyone time.
