A Day in the Life of a Local Flower Delivery Service on Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

An estimated $17.3 billion is being spent on this Valentine's Day across the country. Channel 2 News rode along with a local flower delivery service to get a look at how business is going behind the scenes.

It was a very busy day for Sparks Florist. Extra people had to be brought in to help deliver all the flowers. Corri Johnson's works as a delivery driver for Sparks Florist. Her day started out at 7:00 a.m., that's when the first batch of flowers went out. We tagged along to see what a day in the life of a delivery driver is like on Valentine's Day and it's everything you would expect it to be. "The energy is high, everybody is running, moving, go go go," said Johnson.

Around 34 cars were packed with flowers moving in and out from the Sparks Florist warehouse to deliver flowers. About 100 arrangements are expected to be delivered every hour. The flowers are secured in place by foam place-holders. About 10 to 15 deliveries go in each car, except for one large rose bouquet that was so big, that it needed to be delivered by itself in a separate car.

We hit the road with Corri and stopped by several businesses to deliver flowers. Deliveries were welcomed with smiles and the reactions were priceless. Sparks Florist trucks traveled just about everywhere today from Verdi to Washoe Valley, Lockwood, Cold Springs and anywhere in between. "It makes you happy to make other people happy and I'm a smiley, upbeat kind of person so for me it's nice. It's a good fit," said Johnson.

Over 100,000 flowers were delivered this week for Valentine's Day. Deliveries went on all day. Sparks Florist says they plan to start wrapping up deliveries Friday night around 6:30p.m.
