High Wind Warning Issued for Several Nevada, California Counties

From the National Weather Service:

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a high wind warning which is in effect from 1pm to 8pm Saturday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.

Affected areas include Lassen, Modoc, Mono and Plumas Counties in California - and Douglas, Lyon. Storey and Washoe Counties in Nevada.

Timing: winds will increase late Saturday morning through late Saturday night.

Winds: south to southwest 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Higher gusts up to 75 mph are expected in wind prone areas along Highway 395 between Susanville and Doyle and in the Sierra Valley.

Impacts: strong cross winds will create hazardous travel conditions for motorists especially for high profile vehicles along Highway 395 south of Susanville as well as Highway 70 east of Portola. Travel restrictions for high profile vehicles are possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:

Damage to trees, power lines and property is possible with winds of this magnitude. Travel will become hazardous for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution and remain alert for sudden gusts or
cross winds.
