White Powder Deemed Sugar, Found at Reno Police Department

Posted: Updated:

A local couple's mail prompted a response by HAZMAT teams at the Reno Police Department Wednesday night.

Firefighters say HAZMAT teams were called around 5pm to investigate a suspicious envelope containing white powder. They say a couple received the envelope in their mail and brought it to the Reno Police Department on E. 2nd Street in Reno.

The couple was quarantined while the Regional HAZMAT Team investigated. Tests later confirmed the substance was powdered sugar and no one was harmed.

Fire officials say if you ever receive a strange substance, just call 911 immediately. They say they will respond to investigate and that you should never bring something suspicious to the police station.

Reno Police say they will now take over the investigation of who sent the letter to the local couple.
