Charter Goes All Digital; Analog Signal Phased Out

Posted: Updated:

If you're a Charter customer, you may have noticed some changes to your cable service.

The company is in the process of going all-digital in our area so customers will no longer be able to directly connect their TVs to cable without a set-top box.

Only the people who have their TVs set up to plug directly into the cable socket on the wall without going through a cable box will be affected. Those people will need to get a box from Charter in order to use their service.

If you see a message like the one posted on this webpage in your home or office, they're asking you to call or stop by a Charter store to get your at-home installation kit. Each additional box past the first one will carry a monthly fee so you'll pay more depending on how many TV sets you have in your home.

If you need to get a box and installation kit, you can call Charter at 1-877-958-7119. They will ship it to you at no cost or you can stop by one of their local offices to pick it up yourself.

Now if you already have the right equipment you may have also noticed that some of your channels have changed. For example, our Antenna TV station that was previously found on Channel 222 is now on Channel 183.

Another interesting thing to note - businesses or buildings that previously ran multiple different TVs without cable boxes will now have to pay extra for the same service. Washoe County School District, for example is looking at an additional $6,800 a year to keep one cable box running in each school.
