Despite Flight Delays in 2013, Passengers Packed Their Patience

Posted: Updated:

It seems the skies were a little friendlier last year.

A government report shows consumer complaints against airlines dropped 14% in 2013.

The improvement comes even though about one out of every five flights were late to their destination, similar to previous years.

Frequent flier, Eric Steen, said delays are just a part of life.

"A lot of other passengers complain a lot that there's delays, I just try to stay patient and say if all these jets can land in America safely every day then if there are a few delays, I'm ok with that."

American Eagle was the worst performer in 2013. It's flights arrived as scheduled only 72% of the time.

Express Jet and Frontier had similar results. Hawaiian Airlines was the most reliable company boasting a 93% on time rate. Alaska and Delta came in second and third.

A storm hit the Midwest during the holiday rush, leaving thousands of people stranded at airports.

Airlines also had a tougher time keeping track of luggage.

In 2013, the number of mishandled bags rose slightly.
