New Warehouse Development Coming to Spanish Springs

Posted: Updated:

Northern Nevada is celebrating a new project that will bring businesses and jobs to our area.

A groundbreaking was held Monday in Spanish Springs; 1.5 million square feet of warehouse and distribution centers will be developed near Spanish Springs Business Center near Ingenuity Avenue.

Business leaders say this is a huge step in the right direction as Northern Nevada recovers from the recession.

"We've been in a five-year lull, and this is one of the first few projects to come out of the ground in the last five years. It's been a long haul," says Dave Simonsen, NAI Alliance Senior VP.

Representatives from Northern Nevada welcomed the newcomers with open arms at a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.

Part of this new development will house SanMar Corporation - a Seattle-based apparel and accessory supplier.

The rest will be available for other businesses to start or relocate here.

Reno-based United Construction company was chosen to do the building - and that's just a handful of the jobs they expect to create with the development.

And while representatives from EDAWN and the county commission say it was a challenge to get the project here. Once businesses give Northern Nevada a chance they see what a great place it is.

"Once you get people here, and the stigma is out of the way, they realize, 'oh my goodness, great people, great geographical location, great weather.' There are so many positives. It's just getting them here and getting them exposed to Northern Nevada, and once they're here, things can take care of themselves," says Jesse Haw, Hawco Properties President.

Construction is slated to be finished by the end of this year.
