National Weather Service Warns of Flood Dangers

Posted: Updated:

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for parts of eastern California and western Nevada, including the Lake Tahoe Basin, southern Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties, and the Reno, Carson City and Minden areas.

The NWS says that through this afternoon residents of those areas can expect heavy rainfall, which will lead to large amounts of water on roadways, as well as an increased probability for rock and mud slides near steep terrain.

Officials say that anyone living near small creeks and streams should be prepared for sudden rises in the water level, which could threaten property. They warn residents not to cross flowing creeks, and ask drivers to slow down in areas of heavy rain to avoid accidents.
