Woman From China Hit, Killed on I-80 Near Soda Springs

Posted: Updated:

The California Highway Patrol says icy roads could be to blame for a fatal accident on I-80 Thursday night.

The crash happened just before 5 pm on I-80 eastbound at Donner Pass Road, near Soda Springs.

The California Highway Patrol says a couple from Beijing, China driving a green Lexus LS430 had slid off the roadway and hit an embankment. They were being helped by a good samaritan when a few minutes later a second Lexus, a GS350 lost control and hit the first one, along with the Chinese woman who had gotten out of her car.

40-year-old Fang Ling died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, 73-year-old George Georgiou, was not hurt.

Troopers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
