Authorities have arrested a Florida man they say stole an SUV and then a second vehicle near Bordertown Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Nevada Highway Patrol says around 7:30pm Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol requested their help pursuing a blue Lincoln Navigator going 100mph south on Highway 395 just past the Agricultural station.

Troopers responded to the area and found the SUV abandoned in the center median, just north of Bordertown 30 minutes later. An investigation revealed that the SUV was stolen from Oregon, but displayed plates from Yreka, California.

The driver fled before authorities could get a physical description of the suspect.

Around 3:30am Wednesday, they say 36-year-old Virgil McDowell stole a yellow Ford Fairmont from a parking lot in Bordertown. Troopers followed the car from 395 onto Oddie Blvd. when McDowell finally stopped and was later arrested. He faces several stolen vehicle, and drivers license-related charges.

Trooper say it remains unclear at this time if these two cases are related. Both CHP and NHP are investigating and will release more information as soon as it becomes available.
