Restaurants, Florists Say Plan Now for Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

If you haven't thought about Valentine's Day yet, it's not too early to start planning ahead.

Sparks Florist is already looking ahead to next week when Valentine's Day orders will start pouring in. Suzanne Shepherd says the economy seems to be picking up here in northern Nevada. "We anticipate having about 1,100 deliveries that day, so in order to do that we hire about 60 to 65 extra people to help in a variety of capacities," she said.

By Friday the design center at Sparks Florist will be overflowing with flower arrangements. Shepherd says because Valentine's Day falls on Friday this year, it's okay to send a bouquet early in the week. "So you can save a little money by delivering them early and she can be the first one to get her flowers," she explained. Shepherd has this tip for those who are new to the world of romance. "Women love to get flowers at work because then everyone who works with them knows they have a valentine that loves them."

Valentine's flowers aren't just for lovers. According to Shepherd, family and friends send bouquets too. "Maybe to a mom who's lost her husband. Maybe it's her fist year without a valentine."

Papa Murphy's Pizza in Sparks is expecting a busy Valentine's Day too. Next week you can order a special pizza for that special someone. Assistant Manager, Modesto Romero says their specialty is a heart-shaped pizza with pepperoni. "They're really popular," he said. "Every single year it gets busier and busier."

Restaurants and casinos are planning ahead too. Fine dining restaurants often have Valentine's specials and require reservations, which they suggest you make as early as possible.
