Local Couple a Top Contender in National Wedding Contest

Posted: Updated:

Marriage between same-sex couples is illegal in 33 states, including Nevada. And the A.C.L.U. has launched a national campaign to raise awareness nationwide called My Big Gay Illegal Wedding.

While 180 couples are competing for votes, eight are from Nevada and right now Brian Jensen and Jeromy Manke are in the top three top vote-getting couples nationwide.

"We are really excited!" Jensen says.

The two had already been planning a spring wedding for this year.

"$5,000 will go to the top five winners and that is a lot of money. We can expand our guest list and really celebrate if we win!" Manke says.

"It's about a lot more than just a wedding certificate," Jensen says. "It's also about healthcare and insurance and everything. And while DOMA has been overturned in some states, it's important that it is overturned everywhere."

The couples are all listed on the ACLU's website: https://weddings.aclu.org/

You can vote once a day, every day through February 16th.
