IGT Invests in Local Talent, Partners With University of Nevada

Posted: Updated:

IGT is a global company with a real investment in local talent. Six months ago International Game Technology forged a partnership with UNR's College of Business and the result is paid internships and real life experience for local computer and technology students, and a chance for the technology giant to cash in on local talent.

"We are hiring the best and the brightest and showing them the kind of career IGT has to offer them, before they have a chance to leave town," says Todd Imus who heads up the call center at University of Nevada.

The students are part of IGT's paid internship program and they are all scheduled around their classes. The call center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And the calls come in from all over the world.

"Today I've had like four calls,", says Alex Sedona. "But we get calls from Australia, South Africa Las Vegas, China and even here in Reno. Some are simple, like how to set up an e-mail account and some are really challenging, but you learn from them all."

"You hardly ever get the same question, so it seems like I'm always learning things. And it is nice to know that you can make someone's day better when panic sets in," says Zach Sanford.

For now there are 23 employees working in the call center. They are all paid-internships from IGT. And they are all able to work their hours around their class schedules.
