Chipotle Mexican Grill Opens in South Reno

Posted: Updated:

Chipotle Mexican Grill opened Thursday in south Reno. The restaurant serves a menus of burritos, salads and tacos.

It will be open daily from 11am-10pm at 6395 S. McCarran at the corner of McCarran and Kietzke Lane.

This is the first location in northern Nevada. "We are excited to continue our presence in Nevada with our first restaurant location in Reno," says Chris Arnold, Chipotle director of communications. "Chipotle has been well received in Las Vegas and we are looking forward to continuing to bring delicious, affordable, and high-quality food to the people to Nevada."

Its debut in Reno represents a change, in what is considered Mexican food. Chipotle boasts an organic menu and naturally raised meat, which is why Kaylin Glines went on opening day.

"My brother raises cows and pigs, so we know how much better it tastes when they don't get injected with hormones and when they don't get slaughtered in slaughterhouses."

"And you're certain the meat they use here is that way?" reporter John Potter asked.

"Yes, we've done our research on it."

This restaurant employs 38, but it's not locally owned, not even a local franchisee. All Chipotles are owned by the company, based in Denver; they own over 20 around Sacramento. We met folks here, who told us that up to now, they'd drive to Roseville just for this. Back at her table, Carol gives us her review. "Healthy, fabulous, and fresh."

"How many stars, critic?"

"Five!"

The company won't say if more are coming to town. But in the madness of this burrito bowl heaven, Kaylin is already starting...another wait...for another location.

"I hope so, because if it's like this all the time, we're in trouble! (laughing)"

Chipotle opened with a single restaurant in 1993 and currently operates more than 1,550 restaurants.
