Super Bowl Increases Sales for Many Businesses

Posted: Updated:

The National Retail Federation estimates that 75% of people above the age of 18 will watch Super Bowl XLVIII this Sunday. Each viewer is expected to spend an average of about $68.27 because of the game.

Retailers in Nevada expect nearly $110 million in sales, leading up to the game.

People will be buying athletic gear, televisions, food and beverages.

Pizza Plus expects sales to reach $50,000 between their four locations, on their busiest day of the year. "We'll probably go through about 4,000 pounds of wings that day, 1,500 to 2,000 pizzas, 100 gallons of ranch dressing, 2,500 pounds of fries, 65 gallons of wing sauce," Daniel Blake, Pizza Plus President said.

It also means extra hours for employees. More than 20 people will be working at each of their restaurants during the Super Bowl. "It really takes a lot of teamwork to get the orders out and to keep the customers happy," Blake said. "They seem to have a great time with it. We have food for them."

About 80% of consumers say they will spend their Super Bowl money on food and drinks.

Pizza Plus is already filling orders for the big game. "We see less people in store on a Super Bowl than we do for other events because everyone's doing their parties at home," Blake said. "But they come in and do the pizza and wing packs."

Unless you're heading to New Jersey, this weekend, you can't watch the game without a TV. 7.2 percent of people spending money on the Super Bowl are buying a new big screen.

"If you're looking to host a Super Bowl party, sometimes a big TV is a lot of fun," Tom Willardson, RC Willey General Manager said. "That's usually what we see around Super Bowl time."

RC Willey has Super Bowl deals that knock an average of about $200 off the price.

Most are going big, buying 60 or 70-inch televisions at lower prices. "In the last two years, TVs have really dropped a lot, where you can come in on a regular-sized budget and be able to find a great TV," Willardson said.

RC Willey has extra televisions in stock because of the Super Bowl.

If you buy one soon enough, they can install it for you in time for kickoff.
