President Obama's State of the Union speech is expected to include a lot of praise for the economic recovery so far. Political Science Professor Eric Herzik at the University of Nevada says he expects to see the president put a positive spin on everything he can.

"He most certainly can point to the economy and say that unemployment is down and things are getting on track. And while he will have to mention 'Obamacare' it will be with the most positive spin possible. It's hard to justify all that's gone wrong with it, but he will find some."

The speech is important to help bolster Obama's failing ratings right now, which Herzik says are about the same as George W. Bush's ratings were at the same point in his presidency. Plus, it could make or break the Democratic Party for the upcoming midterm elections.

"If he gets too far off track, the Republicans will just fold their arms and stop listening and that won't bode will for working together in Congress. If he sticks to the positives he can help set up some positive outcomes for the Democratic Party."

You can watch live coverage of the State of the Union right here on Channel 2. A special report featuring the president's address and the Republican response begins at 6pm. Because of that we will be airing a special edition of the CBS Evening News on Channel 2.2 and Charter 222 starting at 5:30pm.
