Local Gov't Access Channels to Relocate on Charter's Lineup

Posted: Updated:

From the City of Sparks:

Effective the first week of February, the three local government access channels (Reno, Sparks and Washoe County) will be relocated from Charter Communications' current lineup.

*          The City of Reno channels will be moved from 216 and 213 to 192 and 194 respectively.
*          Washoe County TV will move from 217 to 193.
*          The City of Sparks government channel, also known as Sparks Centennial Television, will be moved from channel 215 to channel 191.

The local government channels will be accessible to a larger audience because residents will not have to pay for an expanded cable package to view the channels and Charter plans to have all the digital channels mobile-friendly for phones and iPads and tablets next year.

Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks place a strong focus on government efficiency and transparency.  City Council and County Commission meetings are more accessible to the public through live programming on Charter Communications and through the internet to include archived television programming.  The broadcast of public meetings and other public service programming is a form of outreach the jurisdictions equally embrace, as it provides a glimpse into how local government works and stirs citizen interest in issues that affect the entire region.  The Charter Communications government access channels are commercial free.

Charter TV local government programming will now be available in basic "select" packages on channels 191, 192, 193 and 194.  Additionally, the local governments stream their government access channels through their public websites.
