Wendy Damonte to Speak at TEDx Talk on Nevada Campus

Posted: Updated:

KTVN's Wendy Damonte will speak about breast cancer and how it affected her family at the TEDx talk at the University of Nevada Friday afternoon.

Damonte is one of 20 speakers chosen from around the world selected to speak at this year's sold-out event inside the Joe Crowley Student Union.

She's expected to talk about her mother's initial diagnosis to how dense tissue medical checks are now Nevada law. Damonte was on hand for last year's event, along with her two children, when Governor Brian Sandoval signed AB 147 into law last June.

She says 40% of women have dense breast tissue - which is a factor for breast cancer. And mammograms don't always pick up tumors in dense breasts. She believes that's what led to her mother's death.

You can watch Damonte speak more about her experiences on our website starting around 2:45pm. Everyone's speeches will be uploaded to YouTube at a later date.
