Reno Burn Code Yellow as Air Quality Worsens

Posted: Updated:

Worsening air quality in the Reno area has prompted Washoe County health officials to ask local residents again to voluntarily restrict wood burning along the Sierra's eastern front.
The county health district changed the burn code from green to yellow late Tuesday because the air quality index moved into the moderate category. A red code triggers a ban on the use of fireplaces, wood stoves and pellet stoves.
Health officials say the voluntary cutbacks should help that from happening.
The poor air quality is due primarily to a winter inversion that traps bad air below the good air above.

People with health conditions should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion. (AP)
