Fatal Head-on Collision near Bridgeport

Posted: Updated:

The California Highway Patrol is trying to figure out what caused a head-on crash that killed one driver, and sent another to the hospital Tuesday afternoon near Bridgeport.

CHP says they received a report around 12:30 p.m. of a crash that was blocking the southbound lane of  US-395, south of Bridgeport.

They say when crews arrived they found a Subaru and a GMC van in the road.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as Suzanne Stokes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics transferred the driver of the van, identified at Barbara Koehler, to Bridgeport, California. Care Flight then transported him to Renown Regional Medical Center, which is Mono County's nearest trauma center.

CHP says they are investigating the exact events that led to the collision, but say it appears Stokes, in the Subaru, was traveling northbound when she crossed the center line and crashed, head-on, into Koehler's van.

Lieutenant R. D. Cohan, Commander of CHP's Bridgeport Area "Wishes to extend his condolences to the family of Suzanne Stokes, and all our best wishes to Barbara Koehler for a speedy recovery.  Collisions of this type demonstrate the need for drivers to continuously be attentive and remain vigilant about keeping their vehicles within their lane.  This collision happened on a clear, sunny day with no inclement weather."
