A man from Truckee, California who was killed in a Navy helicopter crash will be remembered by his hometown later this month.

A public Celebration of Life for Brian Collins will be held on Saturday, January 25th at noon at Truckee High School located at 11725 Donner Pass Road.

The 25-year-old aircrewman had served in the Navy for just over two years and had just celebrated his one year wedding anniversary with his 21-year-old wife.

Cheyenne Collins spoke with a Virginia television station the day after the crash. "I still can't believe it's real. It's not fair. I saw him yesterday morning. You know he kissed me goodbye."

Collins was one three people killed when a MH-53E Sea Dragon crashed off the Virginia coast last week. He passed away at a Virginia hospital after being rescued from the crash site.

The Navy says the Sea Dragon was performing routine airborne mine countermeasure training operations with another MH-53E when it had to make an emergency water landing.

The Navy is still investigating the cause of the crash.
