Walmart Plans Moving Forward at Legends in Sparks

Posted: Updated:

Plans are moving forward to build a new Walmart in Sparks. On Monday, the city council heard an appeal trying to block Walmart from building a new store at the Outlets at Sparks.

The special-use permit for the big box store was approved in November by the Sparks Planning Commission.

And today, residents against that new development got a chance to voice their opinions.

"I think we have enough when it's four or five miles to the other Walmart - it's saturation," says William Cannon.

Sparks resident Michael Russow filed the appeal. He says when Walmart moves in, small businesses get pushed out.

Russow is not surprised that his appeal was denied.

"We're not done, we're going to be looking into legal reasons, we're going to be looking into possible things that maybe they didn't have the time or effort to put into it. I wouldn't say this is over."

If there are no further appeals to the development, the plans are to have Walmart built by the summer of 2015.
