Carson Tahoe Health just expanded its center for wound healing with some high-tech chambers.

There are two hyperbaric chambers at the center now which is located on the second floor of the Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center on Fleischmann Drive.

The chambers deliver 100% oxygen to patients with wounds that won't heal. This might be from diabetic ulcers or arterial issues that limit oxygen from getting to the wound.

Even people who suffer with affects of radiation treatment can be helped in a hyperbaric chamber.

"It's 100% oxygen under 2 and a half atmospheres of pressure so 100% atmosphere plus, the pressure as if you were going at least 33 feet under sea water. You lay in a gurney as you're going in. You're there for about two hours. You get to watch movies, sleep, turnover and talk to the attendant who's right next to you," says program director Melissa Vodicka.

The newly renovated space now has five exam rooms as well.

And the facility has teamed up with Healogics - a leading management group for wound healing centers. This means treatment procedures, outcomes and experiences are shared with clinics in this network to help provide the most up-to-date information on wound healing.
