Area Residents Can Now Recycle Phone Books Curbside

Posted: Updated:

From Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful:

In previous years, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and YP, North America's largest local search, media and advertising company – and publisher of the YP Real Yellow Pages directory – partnered on a phone book recycling program, but because so many recycling options now exist for residents, that program has been discontinued.
This year, there will be no bins this year at any municipality, park or grocery locations. Instead, residents can recycle their phone books in their curbside bins, or take them to either of Waste Management's Recycle America locations: 1100 Commercial Row in Reno or 1455 E. Greg Street in Sparks. Those who live outside Washoe County and don't have curbside recycling can find out where to recycle their phone books at or by calling 775.851.5185.
In addition, residents who know they won't need directories in future can opt out of phone book delivery at or by calling 1-866-329-7118. Requests take several weeks to process, so changes in delivery preferences for directories approaching or currently in distribution may not be reflected until the next directory delivery cycle.
"So many people have the YP app on their phones, and don't realize that they can opt out of phone book delivery," said Christi Cakiroglu, executive director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB). "Stopping that phone book before it even gets to you, and using a virtual or mobile version instead, is a great way to exercise one of the other Rs: Reduce."
