White House Fires Healthcare.gov Contractor

Posted: Updated:

The Obama administration is cutting ties with one of the companies behind the federal health care website.

The White House says it will not renew CGI Federal's current contract after February. Instead, the administration plans to high tech company Accenture to run the site. CGI Federal came under fire following the website's difficult launch as users experienced major problems accessing the site, creating profiles and selecting insurance plans.

The site was down 60% of the time in October. Since it was fixed, more than 1 million people have signed up.

In a statement, CGI called the decision mutual. It said the move comes at a time when healthcare.gov is "performing well, due largely to the CGI's key role..."

A company executive testified in October before Congress and denied any wrongdoing by her company.
