Nevada Health Link Head Answers Questions About Problems

Posted: Updated:

The Board of Directors for the Nevada Health Insurance Exchange met in Las Vegas today and heard from clients, providers and health insurance agents about the problems and delays in the system.

And the Executive Director, Jon Hager, said he's well aware of the frustrations.

"We had a small group of people who paid in November and December and whose information never made it to the carriers. We found an error that was not calculating their tax credits properly. We've identified that group and we're working to get the information to the carriers as quickly as possible."

He said that they have doubled their phone staff, sent out letters giving clients numbers to contact the carriers directly and that they are sending client information to carriers overnight, every night, to catch up. And that he expects insurance cards to go out this week and next.

He also said that if people can't wait for healthcare, they can go to a provider-approved physician or pharmacist, pay out of pocket and file for reimbursement.

"I do apologize," Hager said. "People are under a lot of stress and we're doing everything we can to fix the situation and get people access to the care they need."
