The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office in California is investigating how an explosive device ended up at a probation department in Shingle Springs.

Deputies say around 7am Monday a section of a pipe that was capped off on both ends was found in front of the main entrance to the El Dorado County Probation Department. A make shift fuse appeared to be attached to the approximate 8" x 1.5" object and it appears to have been hastily dropped by someone.

Deputies responded and immediately secured the area.

Twenty-five probation office personnel were safely evacuated from the building as Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) personnel responded.

EOD personnel investigated the object and rendered it safe with no injuries or property damage. Deputies say personnel believe the object was in fact an explosive device that had malfunctioned.

By 10am, the area was cleared.

If you have any information on this case, call El Dorado Sheriff's Office at 530-621-5655.
