DMV Computer System Repair/Upgrade Scheduled Friday Night

Posted: Updated:

A repair/upgrade will be made to DMV's central computer system on Friday night and will require a shutdown from 8pm until 2am Saturday.

Department of Motor Vehicles services, including the agency's website, kiosks and Vehicle Identification Database used for emissions testing, will be down during the outage.

The repair/upgrade is in response to two system outages in the past week which have disrupted operations at DMV's 16 offices across the state. The scheduled repair/upgrade is designed to correct a problem in the system's controllers, which were damaged in a Dec. 28 air conditioning malfunction which created a water leakage in the agency's server room that triggered a server shutdown.

Friday morning's shutdown caused delays at DMV's 16 statewide offices and was fixed by about 8:30am.

The representative says Friday's shutdown was not related to increased demand from Thursday's first day of applications being submitted for the Driver Authorization Card.
