Tribal Police Investigation Attributes Death to Natural Causes

Posted: Updated:

From the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony:

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Tribal Police have concluded that a 45-year-old, Caucasian man found dead on the Colony, died of natural causes and exposure.

"It is unfortunate that someone would pass away on New Year's Day," said Chairman Arlan D. Melendez.  "However, we are relieved it was not due to foul play."

On Thursday, Tribal Police began an investigation after an unresponsive man was discovered near the former Police Station near 98 Colony Road.

According to the RSIC Chief of Police Darrell Bill, the deceased is Michael Cory Slattery.  Slattery did not have a known address in the area.  His next of kin, his mother who resides in New York, has been notified.

The Tribal Police were assisted in the investigation by the FBI and Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
