Predictions for 2014

Posted: Updated:

The New Year is nearly here and according to experts, northern Nevadans should be in for a good one politically, financially and spiritually,

Politically, Fred Lokken says this could be a pivotal year for Nevada.

"Term limits will make a difference," the TMCC Political Science Professor said. "Because of term limits this could be a year where we see candidates just come out of the woodwork. It should be more interesting than most non-Presidential elections."

And he says that nationally, Congress holds our fate in its hands.

"If they opt for compromise they will help strengthen our recovery. But if they lean toward confrontation they could throw us back into recession," Lokken says.

And speaking of the economy, financial advisors like Bob Barone say the economy is strong.

"Unemployment claims are down," Barone, with Universal Financial Advisors says. "Online spending for Christmas was up. And that adds up to helping the middle class get some traction and maybe even a raise this next year."

He adds that the stock market, while high, is in good shape as well.

"It is high, but I don't think it's a bubble. I think there may be a correction but I think the stock market will remain strong," he says.

And spiritual consultant Sue Rosewood says she sees good things this next year.

"I feel that the community is working together. I feel like there is a lot of creativity here and that we will see a lot of businesses opening based on that creativity. I think we'll see a lot of small businesses opening," Rosewood says.
