Nevada to Miss Medical Marijuana Deadline

Posted: Updated:

State officials say they'll miss the Nevada Legislature's April 1 deadline to begin accepting applications from medical marijuana providers and growers.

Marla McDade Williams of Nevada's Health Division says regulations must be approved before the agency can seek applications and that'll take time.

She told the Nevada Appeal ( ) that while the program will have staff on board by April 1, it probably won't be until the summer that the state can begin accepting applications.

Williams, who will manage the program for the Health Division, says she doubts the state will license facilities to provide patients with medical marijuana until September or October.

She says that's partly because after the division writes the regulations, they still must be approved by the state Board of Health and the Legislative Commission.
