An investigation is underway after an early morning fire started at a dorm near the Granlibakken Resort in Lake Tahoe on Monday.

Firefighters say a smoke alarm awoke the seven people inside the Tahoe City building around 4:30am. Authorities say one man suffered burns while rescuing his children from the multi-family structure. The unidentified man was flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for treatment. Authorities say the man is expected to survive.

Granlibakken remains open for business, and authorities say the fire did not damage the hotel resort, wedding venue and conference center.

Everyone else escaped the fire to safety.

Firefighters say the group's possessions, including clothing and Christmas presents, were lost in the fire. Granlibakken's staff are organizing a clothing and toy drive for the family. Items can be donated at the front desk of the resort. For more information contact Madeline Ross at MadelineRoss@granlibakken.com or 530.581.7582.

Donations of clothes and toys can also be dropped off at North Tahoe Fire Station 51, 222 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City. For more information call 530-583-6911, ext. 601.
