U.S. Marshals have arrested a man, said to be an area preacher, for failing to register as a sex offender in Nevada.

Marshals in Reno were contacted by their San Francisco counterparts on Thursday morning with information that 68-year-old James Edward Bryant may be in the area, and eventually found out by community members that Bryant was a preacher in Reno. He was arrested at a West 3rd Street residence, by Deputy United States Marshals and the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit, on an outstanding California Parolee at Large warrant.

Bryant was convicted of sex offenses against a minor under the age of 14. Marshals say Bryant has a significant criminal history and was considered dangerous.

Bryant was booked into the Washoe County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender in Nevada and possession of a dangerous weapon, which was a taser. He faces extradition to California on the outstanding warrant.

The United States Marshals Service is conducting a follow-up investigation in order to assess if Bryant violated federal law as the result of the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act of 2006.
