Many Families Head Outdoors For Christmas

Posted: Updated:

Many families spent Christmas in northern Nevada by enjoying the great outdoors.

From locals to those who are visiting from out of town, many of them hit ski resorts like Mount Rose Ski Tahoe on Wednesday.

"The tourists, especially, are out in full force because they wanted to come to Tahoe to play," said Mike Pierce, Marketing Director for Mount Rose Ski Tahoe. "The resorts are ready for it."

We talked with quite a few people who come from parts of the country that don't get much snow. So, this is a perfect vacation for them.

"We're actually staying in Reno," said Nathaniel Navey of San Antonio, Texas. "Skiing's one of my favorite things to do. Unfortunately, we live somewhere where it's really hot. So, we don't hardly get to do it. So, it's really good to be out here."

Manuel Arino of Temecula, California agrees.

"Down there, we can't have a white Christmas," he said. "We're pretty much guaranteed a white Christmas up here. So, we came up for the snow."

People also carved some ice at Rink on the River all day and some found it to be a great experience to skate on Christmas.

"It's like a Charlie Brown Christmas special or something," said Duane Young of Reno. "It's really cool, and it's really cool the city continued this."

The holidays are also a time to spend with family, and some cherished that.

"I'm off work today," said Jill Wells of Reno. "My daughter's off school. So, we don't celebrate the holidays, but we're enjoying time together and off work. I work at UPS, and it's great to have time with my family, finally."
