6 Arrested in DUI Checkpoint

Posted: Updated:

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that six people were arrested at a DUI checkpoint operation late on Saturday, December 21st.

From 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. NHP Troopers set up a checkpoint on North Virginia Street near Lawlor Events Center, checking a total of 808 vehicles for impaired drivers. Of those vehicles, three dozen were asked to pull aside for further screening.

Five motorists were arrested for DUI, and one pedestrian walking near the checkpoint was arrested for public urination. Four of the DUI arrests were for alcohol and the other one for driving under the influence of marijuana. Two of the DUI arrests were given felony charges, which officials say are typically reserved for motorists who have two or more DUI convictions over the past seven years.

On top of the six arrests, 28 traffic citations were issued for various other traffic-related offenses.

Troopers say that through January 6th extra law enforcement officials will be on patrol, checking for impaired drivers.
