Sparks Justice Court Judge Susan Deriso Announces Retirement

Sparks Justice of the Peace Susan Deriso has announced her retirement. Judge Deriso was first elected as Justice of the Peace in 2000 and was re-elected in 2006 and 2012. Her last day in office will be January 3, 2014.

The Washoe County Board of Commissioners will appoint a temporary Justice of the Peace to fill Deriso's seat through the end of 2014, and will place the vacancy on the November 2014 ballot to elect someone to fulfill the remaining four years of her term beginning January 2015.

The Board will discuss how interested individuals can apply for the temporary appointment at their regularly scheduled meeting on January 14. The filing period to be placed on the ballot for the November 2014 election is January 6-17, 2014.
