Organ Donation Float

Posted: Updated:

The finishing touches were added onto baby Audrey Jade Hope Sullenger's portrait Thursday by her mom, Felicia Hill. Audrey lived just 3 days. Her mom donated her organs so that others could live.  Her heart went to a baby girl in Canada, her kidneys to Hydee Lim. "Felicia invited me here and I can't say no to her because it's an unforgettable moment for me to have my kidneys because I have my husband six years and now that I have a kidney transplant I can go anywhere that I want to go."

The California Transplant Donor Network nominated Audrey to be on the "Light up the World" Tournament of Roses Parade float honoring organ and tissue donation on New Year's Day 2014.

Audrey's portrait will be sent back to Pasadena to be attached to the float. Felicia and her family will travel down a few days before the parade. "I haven't really gotten a chance to meet other donor families especially who have lost other children and this year there are quite a few babies who are being honored on the float."

81 donor portraits will adorn the float. Organ recipients will walk along side it. Family members will watch from the stands as the "Light up the World" float passes by reminding everyone organ donation truly does save lives.
