Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol and officers from local law enforcement agencies will  volunteer their time at Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que® restaurant that day to help raise money and awareness for the hundreds of athletes who participate and train in the Special Olympics Nevada programs throughout the year.

Law enforcement personnel will be paired up with a regular staff member of the restaurant and will work for additional tips during the lunch and dinner hours. As each table of patrons is seated, the officer will give a brief explanation about the fundraiser and will leave an envelope on the table.  Those wishing to make a donation to Special Olympics Nevada will have the opportunity to do so and this tip is in addition to the normal server's entitled gratuity.

All of the fun will be taking place on Thursday, December 19th, from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm for those planning on joining us for dinner.

All of the money raised will stay right here in Northern Nevada to offset the training, equipment and other expenses in an effort to allow the athletes to participate in their sporting activity of choice during the year.

As an added bonus to this evening's function, the Nevada Highway Patrol will be introducing "Murphy" to the community at his first "volunteer service" event.  Murphy recently became a member of the NHP family as a narcotic detecting K-9 and he is a 1½-year-old Springer Spaniel.  He was born in Ireland and is currently assigned to his full-time handler, Trooper Kristen Vietti.  Trooper Vietti and Murphy will be at the event for the four-hour period this evening and will be available for the meet-and-greet beginning at 5:00 pm.
