DUI Checkpoint Planned Saturday in Reno

Posted: Updated:

Several northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will be joining forces this weekend to look for impaired drivers.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, Reno and Sparks police, Washoe County sheriff's office and other agencies will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Saturday afternoon and evening at an undisclosed location.

NHP Trooper Chuck Allen says motorists will be stopped briefly and anyone who shows signs of alcohol or drug use will be directed to a second screening area for sobriety testing.

Officers also will be looking for any other traffic violations, such as drivers texting or talking on a cellphone or people not wearing seat belts.

Besides this weekend's checkpoint, extra troopers have been patrolling highways looking for impaired drivers. That effort began Dec. 13 and will continue through Jan. 6.  (AP)
