Firefighters are investigating what caused  an explosion at a home, north of Reno, on Monday.

It happened on Fetlock Drive, east of Red Rock Road just before 5 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully-engulfed in flames.

Someone was home during that time, but fortunately, he was able to make it out with minor injuries.

"The person that's living here, they're fine," said Division Chief Tim Leighton with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. "They're going into the hospital, and they're going to get evaluated. But, they're walking and talking."

Smoke filed the sky as firefighters worked hard to put out the fire that was contained to the home.

The explosion shook the whole neighborhood.

"I was in the living room, and I felt a thud, a bang," said Betty, a resident on Fetlock Drive. "I turned around, and my friend was in there, and she came into the living room too. She said, 'oh my God.' We looked out, and the house was totally engulfed."

"It was heart-pounding," said Wyatt Gerlach, who also lives on Fetlock. "I just didn't know what to do. So, I called my grandma and went over to their house."

Betty says it took firefighters some time to make it out to the rural area, but also says a quick response wouldn't have mattered.

"It did take a little bit of time, but I'm not sure they could've saved the house anyhow," she said. "It was that fast. Flames were out of every window."

But, neighbors say they are very thankful for the firefighters' hard work.

"If it got closer to my house, I wouldn't know what to do," Gerlach said. "I would try to get all my animals out."

"I'm just sorry that it happened," Betty said. "It's scary."

Fire officials say crews are spending Monday evening monitoring the area to make sure there aren't any hot spots that flare up.
