Crime Statistics Down for This Year's Santa Crawl

Posted: Updated:

From the City of Reno:

On Saturday, December 14th, Santa came to Reno with the 13th Annual Santa Pub Crawl and Santa Under the Arch Photo.

"This year's event was the most successful yet for public safety," advised City of Reno Special Events Program Manager Alexis Hill. "The new partnership between the City of Reno and the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino for the 10 p.m. picture, instead of the former midnight gathering under the arch, led to a drop in arrests." The City Council allocated a $12,000 in-kind sponsorship of services to the Silver Legacy to cover costs associated with the Arch Photo.

The change in the time of the Arch Photo was part of a proactive effort to promote downtown Reno and this popular event, while also working to manage the large crowd participating in the Crawl. "There were no major incidences," says Reno Police Lieutenant Rob Van Diest from the Special Events/Traffic Division.

The City of Reno's final statistics for the Santa Pub Crawl and Photo show police arrested less than half the number of participants than last year. The police statistics for misdemeanor citations were also considerably lower this year.

Here are the final numbers:

2013 Reno Police Department statistics (these numbers do not include warnings):
Total Arrests:  15
Misdemeanor Citations:  2
Civil Protective Custody:  5

2012 Reno Police Department statistics (these numbers do not include warnings):
Total Arrests:  39
Misdemeanor Citations:  13
Civil Protective Custody:  4
