Administrators are being allowed back into a high school in suburban Denver where a 17-year-old girl was shot and critically wounded Friday by a classmate who then took his own life.

Officials haven't said when classes at the school will resume.

Her family says Claire Davis is in a coma. The state's governor has asked the nation to pray for the wounded girl. Hundreds of students and other supporters turned out at the school's track Sunday to pray and show support for her.

Investigators believe the shooter, 18-year-old Karl Pierson, went to the school looking for a teacher with whom he had a dispute. They say he instead shot the classmate at random and ignited a Molotov cocktail inside the school library before killing himself as a school security officer - a deputy sheriff - closed in.

The county sheriff says the officer's aggressive response prevented more casualities. He says it's a tactic that's been adopted nationwide since the shootings in 1999 in nearby Columbine High School. (AP)
