Hug High School has fired Derek Bennett as its head football coach.

Hug High School released this statement Friday:

"Derek Bennett was released from his duties as head football coach at Hug High School on Wednesday. Hug was 0-10 this season, and missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year, three of those under Coach Bennett.

"Bennett will continue working at Hug and supporting students as an academic intervention specialist. Assistant Principal, Brad Bodine said, "Derek has been working with the students of Hug High school since 1999, and his positive impact on their lives is greatly appreciated. We look forward to him continuing to serve the community through his involvement in athletics under a different role."

The position is currently open, and those interested in applying can do so on the WCSD website.
