Sparks Approves North Truckee Drain Construction Contract

Posted: Updated:

From the City of Sparks:

The following was approved at Monday's Sparks City Council Meeting:

The Sparks City Council approved a contract with Q&D Construction in the amount of $9,165,013 to construct Phase 1 of the North Truckee Drain Realignment Project. The project will begin on the west side of Greg Street and end within Larkin Circle, just east of Madison Avenue.

This project is a critical component of the overall Truckee River Flood Project and will realign the drain further downstream of the Truckee River (east of Vista Boulevard).  Storm water as far north from the Spanish Springs Valley, flows into the North Truckee Drain during storm events.  The realignment of the drain further downstream of the Truckee River will reduce or minimize flooding to the Sparks industrial area.

The project is being funded by City of Sparks' flood fees paid by Sparks residents and businesses, and $4.75 million provided by Truckee River Flood Authority. Work is expected to commence in early 2014 and expected to take about one year to complete. There is expected to be lane restrictions on both Greg Street and Larkin Circle during construction.
